“We should learn to live more on staircases. But how?” G. Pérec: Species of Spaces

The 110-dwelling block is located on the southwest edge of newly developed area "Rio Tinto", on grounds of the old mining site Aldea Moret, resolving the scale transition between the oak meadows and the future urban fabric. High density bays in the northeast, southeast and southwest parts of the block, concentrate free plan apartments with a service core around which spaces are generated. Overhanging balconies pattern the façades with stronger urban vocation, and enable the celebration of the traditional street. Sometimes these balconies are paired with others of adjoining apartments, or adopt a stair shape, like bleachers to sit down or to display plants.

This C-shape is widely open to the natural landscape above the volume that closes northeast face, composed of courtyard dwellings of significantly smaller scale. Every dwelling is an open-ended unit, which provides an optimal use of natural light and cross ventilation.
